Making Changes

Changes are hard. There is just something about stepping outside your comfort zone and changing the way you do things. I have never been one to really embrace change and it has not been my friend in the past. But lately I have been thinking more and more about change and I am learning to embrace it. I want change. I'm hoping that it leads to a happier, healthier, and more fulfilling life for me and my children.

I anticipate moving to Kentucky by the end of the year. Honestly...I can not get there fast enough. I am excited to start fresh someplace new. I want to have chickens, a garden, goats, and cats! Now finding the right place where I can have all these things, well that's gonna be a chore. I'm hoping that God just leads me in the right direction. I want to can my own jam and veggies.

I want to live simpler and happier. I want to be more self sustaining, less dependant on market. I have made small adjustments in some things that I'm doing. I realize that this is a slow process, but I'm working on it. And I'm enjoying the changes that I am making to live a more simple, frugal life. I have started making my own laundry soap, which by the way is dirt cheap compared to the name brand stuff I was buying, and this stuff works every bit as good. I was so stuck on the name brand, but after I got over that, I really do prefer the homemade stuff. I am using homemade goats milk bar soap instead of commercial body wash (with all the chemicals), I have been using a homemade shampoo bar followed by an apple cider vinegar rinse for my hair. And surprisingly, I like it. Without all the chemicals.

I have been buying organic produce and fresh farm meats. Also, I have been buying fresh farm milk, cheese, butter and eggs. I can not tell you the difference in taste and I feel better using it. I didn't even think that I liked milk until I started buying this milk. It is delicious. It keeps longer than store bought, it tastes better, and I know where it comes from. It may not be lifestyle choices for everyone, but I am liking the choices I am making for my family and myself.

Are there things that you do to feel you are making a difference??
Tell me. I want to learn more.

Mother's Day

Well today I spent most of Mother's Day being angry with my kids for not listening to me, fighting with each other, and just generally misbehaving. We went to my sister's house for the annual Mother's Day celebration. There was tons of food. Lots of people. It was nice. But really, I am just depressed about my kids and just life in general at this point. I wanted to take the kids and drop them off and go back home alone for Mother's Day. But, we all went together. The kids played outside the whole time we were there. I caught up with my Mom and sister's. My brother came out there too after he got off work.
Overall, I'm glad today is almost over and pray that tomorrow will be better.
And then, I read some of the blogs that I follow and I hear how they are suffering this Mother's Day because their children are no longer with them and it makes me feel terrible because here I am and I have all my children with me and have only been mostly angry with them all day. I am thankful for my children and all that they bring to my life. I know that sometimes I need to lighten up and not get bent out of shape when things are not going exactly how they should, but that has been increasingly difficult for me lately. I know I have not been very uplifting with my posts lately, I'm sorry for that. I am just trying to work out so many things in my head and in my life.
Thanks for reading.
Happy Mother's Day to all my Momma readers.
Until next time....

Oh, and I forgot my camera so no Mother's Day photos to post. Did not even realize I forgot it until I got back and it was on the table.

Easter bunnies

Easter was good.
Ma Maw did not feel up to going to church that morning, but we had a wonderful meal that I prepared and Ma Maw had her input. The kids behaved (all of them). They enjoyed their Easter baskets very much and liked the edible grass that was in the bottom of the baskets. It tasted like Styrofoam to me, but they liked it.
Buck did not drive down for dinner, I was pretty angry about it, but I did not let that ruin the day. He missed out.
Overall, a good day.
Ma Maw spent a couple nights with me, and is now at my sister's house. I will see her again later this week. She was not feeling too good yesterday.

The late post

I know I had promised an update over the weekend, but I was busy with the kids and cleaning.
I am trying to get things in order at my house before my MaMaw gets here. I looks like I may not be driving down there with my Mom to pick her up after all. My Mom is now not able to go pick her up until Friday 4-10-09. We were supposed to be leaving on that Thursday and coming back on Friday. And it just so happens that is Easter weekend. So I will be coloring Easter eggs with the children and preparing the meal for Easter Sunday. And, it just so happens that my nephews birthday party is going to be on the Saturday, the day before Easter. So, if I drive down to Kentucky with my mother on that Friday and come back on the same day, I still will not have time to color the eggs with the kids on Saturday because we have to go to the birthday party and then that will leave me getting everything ready for Easter dinner on Easter Sunday. I just don't know.
I have been enjoying the break from school. My classes resume on April 21. I just finishes reading World Without End by Ken Follett. It was like the sequel to his first book like it called The Pillars of the Earth. I have to say that I really enjoyed the book. I read the entire book in a week's time. I did not get much else done and neglected my blog and well, cooking too. Everyone was fending for themselves for a few days, but they all found things to cook for themselves, which was nice, because I did not have to cook.
This Friday is Buck and my anniversary, even though we are not currently married, we have been together for 5 years now. We really have no special plans, financially, we can not do very much, but I plan to make a good dinner and buy a bottle of wine. And then his birthday is this coming Sunday, 48 years old. I have to say that the last couple years have aged him. I think it is his field of work, being that it's construction, he is constantly worried about getting jobs and making money, and I think that has aged him quite a bit in the last couple years. But I know that I have aged as well. It happens, such is life.
I have been thinking a lot lately about Luke starting school this year. I am happy about it, but a little sad as well. My "baby" is going off to school. He i very excited about it and I am happy for that. He is so smart and always asking questions. He wants to spell things all the time, which I think is wonderful.
Dustin has been doing good in school the last couple weeks, since his last incident. I just hope that he keeps it up, there are only a couple months left until the end of school and he goes on to the middle school next year. I am hoping that will be good for him. Only time will tell.
I have been experimenting with new recipes for dinner, the other day I made homemade chicken fried rice, it was pretty good and cheaper than ordering Chinese for dinner.
Well, until next time....

Nothing to report here

Feeling better. Poor Luke started with a cough again yesterday. Poor little guy is miserable.
Supposed to be working right now, but am having a hard time getting motivated today. Really just wanted to go back to bed this morning, but got up anyway, which is a good thing.
We went the other night to my sister's for dinner. Well, my Mom made lasagna, my sister made the garlic bread, and I brought cake and we all went to my sister's to eat. Was nice for all the kids to play together.
It's looking good like we have MaMaw talked in to coming up for the month of April. I've been missing her, so that will be great to have her here for a month. I'm looking forward to that.
I had took a break between classes and need to call them to start back with classes, I don't want to get too lazy not studying, so I plan to be calling them this week or next to get back in gear there.
Other than that, not much to update. I have a few posts in my head on other thoughts, but I don't have time to do that now, so until next time....

Dinner with the family

So, last night I am still in the area, not on my way home, so I called my Mom to ask her what was for dinner! Hey, I figure that my baby sister and my brother do it all the time, so why couldn't I? Well, of course, she says "Well, what do you want for dinner?" My Dad wanted pizza, so we ended up going out to this pizza place. I had never been there, it was nice. It was me, Dustin, Myles, Luke, my Mom, my Dad, my brother, my sister, and my 2 year old nephew.
I guess, I have never really thought about it too much, but my Lord, we are so loud when we are all together! It was really nice to spend time with them and, well, it was just really nice. And, I did not have to cook dinner! That was good too. =)

Another Nine Weeks...

New classes started today!
Another nine weeks until my associates degree! I can't believe it. But I can not get ahead of myself. I still have the nine weeks ahead before I can say, Yea, I did that!!
Today has been a very long day. Up early this morning for work, just got home a little while ago. Thank goodness I made a ton of food this weekend, so we are having leftovers for dinner the next couple days. I made the best apple pie this weekend. I was patting myself on the back over that one! LOL
Luke still is not feeling 100%. He has a runny nose and cough now. Dustin is all stuffed up and has a cough. Myles has a runny/stuffy nose. I guess we are going to be going back to the doctor this week. I hope this is not how the winter is going to go.

Tomorrow's another day....

It has been a rainy, dreary day here today. The perfect day to cook meals for the coming week and bake. Today, I made a big pot of potato soup, a crockpot of this wonderful chicken stew that I found the recipe for from another blog, fried green tomatoes, cut watermelon, cantaloupe, and put a crockpot of a breakfast casserole that a good friend sent to me. I didn't get much homework done that is due for tomorrow, but I feel like I got a lot accomplished.
Tomorrow, after church, I have to do some laundry, get my assignments done and hopefully relax a little before beginning another busy week.
There has been a lot on my mind today, the argument with the ex about the boys medication, which still has not got picked up and I can not afford to just go get. There is a really long story there. A dear friend of mine is going through a hard time and I have not heard from her. She has been on my mind. I really would love to take off to Kentucky to be by my MaMaw, but that is nearly impossible with gas prices and I can not afford to take off work right now. I am behind on a couple bills. I'm just feeling depressed today. Tomorrow's another day. Hopefully I will be feeling a little brighter tomorrow.
Until next time...

Food

I bought the best sweet corn today at this little stand on the side of the road. There wasn't even anyone there. They had the prices on index cards and a box to leave your money in. It was so cute. I definitly did not think there was anyplace like that left. I bought watermelon, musk melon, sweet corn, and green tomatoes. Geez, I love green tomatoes. I forgot how much I missed these things thru winter.
